PRECO Charity Provides $5,000 to Habitat for Humanity Sarasota

Operation Round Up, the charitable arm of Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO) granted $5,000 to support Habitat for Humanity Sarasota’s mission to provide reasonably priced homes to local families.

“We strive to provide decent, affordable housing for people in need so they may build better lives,” says Renee Snyder, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota president and CEO. “This donation will help us build homes for income-qualified buyers through zero percent interest mortgages.”

“Habitat Sarasota homebuyers are qualified based on their need for improved living conditions, their willingness to complete a minimum of 300 volunteer hours, participation in homebuyer classes and ability to pay their loan,” explains Snyder.

Since 1985, Habitat Sarasota has served more than 250 families. Each year, 800 volunteers put in nearly 17,000 hours working on area homes to help reduce construction costs and keep the homes affordable.

Funding for Operation Round Up is made possible through the generosity of Peace River Electric’s consumer-members who voluntarily allow their electric bills to be rounded up to the next dollar for charitable purposes.
