Wauchula, Florida (October 12, 2024) – Peace River Electric Cooperative (PRECO) is proud to report significant gains in its power restoration process.
Within the first 48 hours after Hurricane Milton blew threw our community, almost 50,000 members had their power restored. As of 6 a.m. today, only 7,307 members were without power. Brevard, Indian River, and Osceola counties are 100% restored. Highlands, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Polk counties are over 90% restored.
PRECO employees, mutual aid crews, and contractors in a force exceeding 1,100 are continuing to make steady progress on those still awaiting restoration. Lineworkers continue to be housed, fed, and supplied with essential amenities at the base camp located at Wauchula Headquarters. PRECO employees fill trucks with fuel each day, and crews are supplied with any needed materials from a warehouse manned by PRECO personnel and mutual aid warehouse storekeepers.
PRECO fully understands the need for power to be restored to every member so our community can recover from this natural disaster. By the end of tomorrow, October 13th, Peace River Electric will have power restored to more than 95% of its members. We will continue to provide restoration updates as we continue to make progress towards our goal of restoring power to 100% of our members who can receive power.
