Solar PV Systems FAQ
Does PRECO offer Net Metering?
Yes, we provide net metering for approved Solar PV Systems (SPS) that have met all of PRECO's interconnection requirements.
Does the Interconnection Agreement require me to maintain any level of insurance?
The answer depends on the size of the SPS. For systems up to 10 kw, PRECO recommends that members maintain $100,000 of Liability Insurance. Systems which exceed 10 kw are required to maintain a higher level of such insurance. Please refer to the Interconnection Agreement form for more information.
What will PRECO have to do at my residence?
Once your system is approved and installed, PRECO will go to your location to perform a visual inspection and install a special SPS meter in the place of our existing utility meter. This will help us track the production of your system as it relates to our grid and credit you effectively for how much excess energy your system produces every month. Your current meter may not have this capability.
How does the interconnection process work?
Interconnection with PRECO's electric distribution grid is a simple 1,2,3 process:
Determine which system to install and complete the necessary forms listed in the “Interconnection Checklist”, accessible on PRECO’s SPS homepage (
).
Submit all required documents along with any applicable fees, then PRECO will process your application for interconnection.
Upon approval of your application and installation of your system, PRECO will go to your location to perform an onsite inspection and install your new SPS meter.
Occasionally, PRECO may be required to perform routine inspections or audits to ensure your system is performing well and record any changes that may have been made.
Are there any incentives out there to help assist with the initial investment?
Yes, currently there are incentives for those systems that apply at both the federal and state levels. Please see the links below. (Currently, PRECO does not provide incentives for SPS.)
