ELECTION PROCESS

Events During the Election Year

JANUARY
The nominating committees meet and name Board of Director nominees. These names, with their bios, will be mailed to each member residing in the respective district. This notice will also inform each member of the date, time and place of the district meeting.

FEBRUARY
District meetings will be held and Director will be elected.

MARCH
Annual Meeting will be held and newly elected Board Members will be seated.

 


Events in year previous to Elections

OCTOBER
Deadline for nominating committee names to be submitted to the PRECO Board of Directors is due by October 24th. If you wish to serve on the nominating committee, please contact your Director. (Board of Directors)

NOVEMBER
PRECO Board of Directors officially name the nominating committee.

DECEMBER
PRECO will publish in The Florida Monthly Magazine the names and telephone numbers of the nominating committee. The PRECO membership will be asked to submit to this nominating committee, names of qualified nominees to run for the Board of Directors.

 


What qualifies a member to run for office?

Any person shall be eligible to become and remain a Director in the Cooperative who:

  1. Is a member of the Cooperative for at least 12 months, maintain their primary residence in the district, which the Director represents and purchase electric energy from the Cooperative at that residence.

  2. Not be employed by or have a material financial interest in a competing enterprise or business that sells electrical energy or a supplier, contractor, consultant or any other entity with which the Cooperative does a substantial amount of business.

  3. Not have a close relative employed by the Cooperative.

  4. Not be employed by the Cooperative and must not have been employed by the Cooperative for a period of two years before becoming a Director.

  5. Attend at least three-fourths of the regular monthly Board meetings during any twelve-month period beginning with the first month the Director takes office unless failure to attend a meeting is excused by Board action.
