The Future of Affordable Electricity has Dimmed

H.R. 2454, American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, Waxman-Markey bill, Cap-and-Trade bill: All names for the same bill aimed at increasing your electricity costs. The bill, passed by the US House of Representatives 219 to 212, now moves on to the US Sentate.

Now is the time to contact your Senators to let them know how you feel about paying more for electricity (as well as other forms of energy). If the American people don’t stand up now to get this bill killed in the Senate we can all say “goodbye” to affordable electricity.

In short, this bill will cause energy providers to purchase carbon credits in order to generate electricity.  And as you may have already guessed, this added cost gets passed on to the consumer – YOU!

Isn’t our economy already hurting enough without adding another burden onto the backs of taxpayers?

Peace River Electric Cooperative urges all members to contact Senators George S. LeMieux and Bill Nelson now. We believe the Cap-and-Trade bill threatens the future of electricity’s affordability and reliability.

To make things easy, we have a website that will send an email for you. Simply, click on the link shown below and plug in your address.  There you’ll be able to send a series of pre-selected questions to your representatives in Washington and Florida. The most basic but critical question?  What are they doing to make sure we’ll have the power we need in the future?

The electric bill you save will be your own.
